When will the flu vaccine be available at the practice?

Flu vaccines both private and government funded are available now

Does everyone get the same flu vaccine?

No, different vaccines are given depending on age groups

How much does the flu vaccine cost?

Private vaccines are $15 each.

If you are eligible for a government funded vaccine it is free of charge.

What is the best time of year to have my flu vaccine?

It is recommended to have your flu needle from April-May as this will provide protection before the peak season takes place. Whilst protection is generally expected to last for the whole season, the best protection against influenza occurs within the first 3-4 months following vaccination.

Is the practice running flu clinics this year?

Yes, we are currently running flu clinics and they are filling fast. Please contact our friendly reception staff to book an appointment.

If I’m coming in for an appointment about something else can I get my flu needle at the same time?

Yes, just mention to your doctor during your consultation that you would like to have your flu vaccine whilst you are here.

Can I still get the flu vaccine if I am unwell?

We recommend consulting with your doctor if you are unwell, however the vaccine will not be given if you have a temperature/fever.

What else can I do to protect myself from the flu?

  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you sneeze

  • Cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow, not your hands

  • Wash your hands

  • Put used tissues in the bin

  • Stay at home when you are sick
